Quality certification

Development and support of quality management, food safety and traceability systems for businesses and producer groups, based on international standards such as ISO 22000, GLOBALG.A.P. and AGRO 2.

Standards and certifications

We develop and support quality and food-safety systems based on the leading international standards below.

ISO

We support two ISO standards:

  • ISO 22000 for food safety
  • ISO 9001 for quality management

ISO 22000 documents the implementation, maintenance and review of a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system for businesses that manufacture, process, produce, pack, store, transport, distribute, handle and offer for sale food and animal feed. It examines the health hazards that may affect food (e.g. microbes, chemical substances, foreign matter) at every stage of preparation and proposes the appropriate preventive measures to address them.

ISO 9001 sets out the requirements for a quality management system, with an emphasis on consistently meeting customer requirements, complying with legal and regulatory obligations, and continually improving the organisation’s processes.

GLOBALG.A.P. · IFA & CfP

A private global production protocol designed to enforce the principles of Good Agricultural Practice (G.A.P.), to deliver safe, high-quality agricultural products with respect for the environment and the wellbeing of farm workers.

It was drawn up on the initiative of the largest European retailers (supermarkets), and through its broad acceptance across an ever-growing number of markets it promotes the international recognition of certified agricultural businesses and raises the standing of Greek agricultural products in the eyes of European consumers.

The GLOBALG.A.P. protocol applies either to individual producers (Option 1) or to a group of producers (Option 2). The main areas of agricultural activity in which the protocol is applied are:

  • Crop production (fruits & vegetables, ornamental flowers & plants, broad-acre crops, coffee, tea)
  • Nurseries of propagation material
BRC GS · Global Food Safety Standard

BRC is a series of Food Safety and Quality Standards developed by the British Retail Consortium to assess businesses that supply supermarket chains. Its updated editions are globally recognised standards that set out the requirements for food safety and quality management systems.

AGRO 2

The AGRO 2-1 & 2-2 Standard is an environmental management system with elements of a quality system that can be applied to any agricultural holding on a collective basis by Producer Groups, with scientific support and oversight from a supervising technical advisor.

It is based on adherence to legal requirements, the rational use of all inputs (water, fertilisers, plant protection products) and the monitoring and control of every stage of production, with the aim of protecting the environment and the consumer and producing branded, high-quality, safe and competitive products.

AGROCERT / OPEGEP has developed the AGRO 2.1 & AGRO 2.2 standards, which describe the requirements an agricultural holding must comply with in order to be certified for the application of the Integrated Management System (IMS) in the production of its products.

IFS Food

The IFS (International Food Standard) is a common food safety and quality standard, which emerged from the collaboration between the members of the German Federation of Retailers and its French counterpart.

IFS sets out the specific requirements for food safety, legality and quality that businesses processing and/or packaging food must satisfy. It allows the assessment of food safety and quality systems applied by suppliers across the food chain through a uniform approach. The IFS Standard applies to all post-primary stages of food processing.

The International Food Standard is grounded in consumers’ continuously growing demand for safe food and in compliance with the requirements arising from both national and European legislation. IFS is a key tool for food export businesses.

LEAF Marque

LEAF Marque is a leading global assurance system that recognises products grown sustainably. Businesses with LEAF Marque certification have been independently verified against the robust LEAF Marque Standard.

SMETA

SMETA is the most widely used audit in the world. Businesses use SMETA to understand and improve working conditions and environmental performance across their operations and supply chains.
